The cultural performance, “Hangzhou, A Living Poem”, which featured a symphony concert and gala on water, was staged alongside the West Lake. The show, put together by Chinese director Zhang Yimou, is a cultural fusion of the East and West, with traditional Chinese music blended with a touch of Western classics. The new version of Impression West Lake show - Enduring Memories of Hangzhou. The new show Enduring Memories of Hangzhou, is upgraded by the team led by famous director Zhang Yimou based on the former Impression West Lake Show. The name of the show is quoted from a very famous poem written by Bai Juyi ( 772 - 846 ), the great poet, litterateur and politician in Chinese Tang Dynasty ( 618 - 907). He used to be the mayor of Hangzhou, and was respected and loved by the local people since he did a lot work to make them live better. One of the highlights when visiting Hangzhou, China is seeing the Impression West Lake show. This aquatic tableau was one of the most sensational live performances I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying a lot given how many I’ve attended. The show can best be described as a grand spectacle of lights, music, dance and theatrics...perhaps a bit similar to "O" by Cirque du Soleil. The Impression West Lake Show, at West Lake, Hangzhou, uses the lake and its surroundings as props, lots of lights, and hundreds of dancers, to create a dazzling performance. It is produced by film director Zhang Yimou, who developed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Staged on the lake itself with a stage 3 centimeters below the surface, it is a performance of light, music, dance and theater. Drawing on classical myths and legends of West Lake, the show follows a thousand-year dream. The autofocus takes a second to take and the zoom is quite coarse; and the white costumes of the male lead dancers are very washed out unfortunately, but I think you get the overall idea.

Wuzhen is one of China's ancient water towns, where waterways thread their way through the flagstone streets and alleys. Wuzhen in North Zhejiang Province, is a 45 minute bus ride away from Hangzhou East Bus Station. The waterways of Wuzhen are kept topped up with water by the adjacent Hangzhou to Beijing Grand Canal, which is still used to supply the dry north with water from the wet south and local goods transport. It was a major transport artery in times gone by, which led to the rise to prosperity of water towns like Wuzhen. Video by costiflorea firstname.lastname@example.org
